Plymouth bookmakers raided by armed masked robbers - two men arrested

Coral bookmakers in Wolseley Road

Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a Plymouth bookmakers.

Police were called to the Coral bookies in Wolseley Road shortly after 8pm, last night (Monday).

Investigators say two men entered the shop, both wearing balaclavas. One of the pair approached the counter and pulled out a knife, ordering the lone female staff member to hand over the takings.

The terrified woman, in her 40s, handed over a three-figure sum and the pair fled.

Investigators say they have seized CCTV footage and spoke to a number of customers who were in the store at the time of the incident.

Police arrested two men at another location in the city later on Monday night on suspicion of robbery.

'Traumatised' employee off work after robbers hit Plymouth Coral bookmakers

POLICE are still hunting two robbers who targeted a bookmakers, leaving a lone female shopworker "extremely upset" and off work.

Investigators say the two suspects entered the Coral Bookmakers on Wolseley Road at 8pm on Monday night.

As one of the suspects held the door the other threatened approached the woman brandishing a knife and ordering her to empty her registers.

Around £260 from the till was placed in a bag and both suspects ran away from the scene shortly after 8pm.

Police said two men, aged 24 and 26, from Plymouth, were arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery. However, while the 26-year-old was later released with no further action to be taken against him, the other was released on police bail until May 26 for an unrelated matter.

A police spokesman said there were three customers in the bookies at the time of the incident and all three have been interviewed by detectives.

CCTV footage from the store has been acquired and police are scouring the film to try and determine the suspects' identities.

The police spokesman added: "The shopworker was left extremely upset and traumatised by the incident. She is currently off sick and being supported by her firm.

"We want to hear from any who may have seen two men in the area of Wolseley Road, or saw two people running away from the bookmakers at around 8.10pm, or anyone else who has any information that could assist with the investigation."
