Robber Dean James Bradshaw jailed for knife raid at Seaton Delaval bookies

A knife robber who threatened staff at a bookies is today behind bars,

Dean James Bradshaw has been locked-up for more than five years for the terrifying raid, which happened at the Chisholm Bookmakers, in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, two months ago.

On Tuesday January 5 a man entered the betting shop, armed who a knife. The raider began threatening staff and demanding cash, before running off.

Bradshaw, 26, of Main Street, Seghill, was later arrested and charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon. He appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday on April 13, where the prison sentence was handed down.

Police have welcomed the judge’s decision, saying the jail term imposed meant a dangerous criminal is now off the streets of Northumberland.

Det Insp Sharon Chatterton, of Northumbria Police said: “Although no one was injured during the robbery, staff were understandably left shaken after a frightening experience for them.

“The sentence passed by the court now mean a dangerous offender is behind bars for a significant period of time and Northumberland is a safer place for it.

“This should be a warning to others that we will use every tool at our disposal to arrest offenders and have them put before the courts to ensure the community is protected from their criminal activity.”
