I actually applied to be on the committee. I knew I had no chance, but just out of interest. I'm not totally of the same view as some, because I do like to give people a decent chance first and I do know how slowly the workings of these things can be - very frustrating. I make no comment on most of the members, but my feeling is that both Steve Tilley and Simon Rowlands are thoroughly decent people who are keen to make the lots of the bettor/punter, whatever term chosen a better place. We will see.

Jim why did you know or feel you had no chance.? When the Volunteers where first revealed there was much unfair critique Re Bookmaker connections and conflict of interest.I went on line and defended them would still like to but increasingly they make this difficult. But my main frustration remains poor communication and imo there is no excuse for this.

One of them told me that prior to the start the BHA advised them that little of there free time would be needed. This says plenty about the BHA intentions but as the volunteers have perhaps now found time is needed to do the job properly and with respect i would say to them if you are unwilling to give it then make way for those who are.

We are offered few and infrequent up dates Re there intentions and progress and this results in declining interest and support. For goodness sakes how long does it take to post some info on a forum.? They now have there own yet make poor use of it.

Fair do's. The lack of posting does not give a good impression.

If you check the HBF Survey thread on BF forum yesterday Simon posted. This is appreciated but it appeared forced via negative comment from myself and others which should not have been needed. If they fail to keep us informed then people will lose interest which is exactly what the bookmakers would wish.

As mentioned you have already shown transparency Re what is not happening and why and i suspect that when things do start to take off this will prove time well spent.

I note the HBF members will have a stand at Donny on Wen .To meet the public and spread the message.I will not be able to make it but wish them well on the day. There progress is slow but a little has been made and any efforts to further increase awareness of those not currently affected by account closures of what may await them has got to be a positive.

I'm going to meet them and once again we have been asked to submit some material and correspondence for their meeting. This time about account closures and contradictory correspondence from the GC.

If you didn't hear it the link for 'Your and Yours' yesterday is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07rkh2t … Starts 15:06.

Cheers Jim just listened "Right to bet" the GC say we do not have it but i would ask them why are you not actively seeking it.? The Australian guy came across as very articulate and also made the most valid point that it was UK firms buying sports books in his country and using the same MO as they do here who created the prob.Only two states so far yet 70% of turnover. Are Hills PP B365 now selling up i bet not.

You are correct the GC should be acitvely seeking change. It is the only ethical stance.

Richard tells me (we are in contact regularly) that no bookmakers have handed their licences in. PP are doing fantastic through their SportsBet arm. Turnover up 33% and profits 20-25% and they are laying everyone as per the law. Compare that to PP here and the utter joke that is the Betfair Sportsbook. Bet365 are doing OK but getting fined for some practices that are seen as perfectly acceptable here. WH are doing awful as they are spending all their time challenging everything, so everyone hates them. I can only assume that WH thought the Aussie authorities and state governments would give into them like our authorities do - no chance - and good-on the Aussies.
